sydney film festival
10-21 June 2020
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 67th Sydney Film Festival was a virtual experience this year. Festival Director, Nashen Moodley, announced a program of 12 days of screenings, comprised of 33 films in four categories: Documentary Australia Foundation Award; Europe! Voices of Women in Film, which included both documentaries and dramatic features by female directors; Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films; and Screenability, three short films by screen practitioners with a disability.
Many of the transmissions were introduced by the filmmakers and followed by Q&A sessions with live panels.
There is also a collection of 40 titles screening on SBS On Demand (until Friday 10 July), selected by the Festival Director from previous festivals. This is a wonderful chance to catch up with or, possibly, re-live some cinematic experiences from the last 20 years of the Sydney Film Festival.
